3 County Midget Teams Eliminated In Area Playoffs

All three Centre County Little League teams were eliminated last night in area playoffs. Bellefonte lost to Renovo when the home team rallied for three runs in the final inning to win 3-2; Nittany Valley was trounced by Juniata Valley at McAlisterville, 8-1, and Penns Valley lost to Big Valley all-stars at Belleville, 6-3. The defeats write an end to any advance by county Little League teams.

At Renovo Bellefonte held the home team runless until the final frame, when the Renovo batters broke through for two hits and three runs that overcame an early Bellefonte lead.

Juniata Valley limited the Nittany all-stars to five hits in posting their triumph. The winners connected 11 safe blows, four of them for extra bases.

A bad second inning led to Penns Valley’s downfall. The Big Valley club scored four runs, two of them coming after two were out. The rally overcame an early 1-0 lead by Penns Valley.

With the Centre County teams eliminated, play is now up to Mifflin and Clinton County teams, Jersey Shore will meet Renovo Thursday night, with the winner taking on the Intercommunity all-stars.

In Mifflin County, the Big Valley and Juniata Valley all-stars will oppose each other at a date and site yet to be determined. The winner will meet the Lewistown champion, crowned last night.
