Suburban Stays Alive in Playoffs
The Suburban All-Star squad was the only one of three local Little League teams to keep its hopes alive in District 10 playoff action last night.
Suburban downed Four Leaf, the defending district champs, 8-4, at the HRB field and will now travel to Clearfield to face the Clearfield All-Stars in the semi-final round Friday at 6 p.m. The Bellefonte All-Stars fell 7-6 to Curwensville and the Tri-County team lost to Lewistown, 13-6, to drop out of the running.
Suburban jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and remained ahead throughout the game..
Andy Wogelmuth lead off the inning with a triple and came home as Tim Brown hit into a fielder’s choice. Two consecutive singles by Dave Weakland and C.J. Sichler, respectively, sent in two more runs, and Jim Warner ended the scoring with a double.
Bellefonte was ahead 6-3 at one point in its game, but the lead was short-lived as Curwensville came back to tie the score and go ahead with the winning run.
Bellefonte, playing at Curwensville, got four runs in the third on a homer by Jeff Lambert and one on a wild pitch. Chris Burger hit a two-run homer for the losers in the first inning.
Lambert was the losing pitcher.
Todd Templeton hit a three-run home run for Tri-County in its game at Warriors Mark. Perry Wilson, the losing pitcher, had two hits.
In other District 10 games last night, Clearfield beat Moshannon, 7-1, Smethport downed McKean, 16-1, DuBois dumped Bradford, 11-0, Brookville defeated Reynoldsville, 11-7, and Punxsy thumped Fox, 3-0.
